Hej!

Välkommen till min hemsida! Welcome to my website!

It is lovely to see you here.

My name is Hanna Wiskari. I am a Swedish musician - a saxophonist, instrumental and ensemble tutor, artistic mentor and workshop facilitator based in Tāmaki Makaurau in Aotearoa New Zealand.

With my roots in the Scandinavian traditional music I am passionate about sounds from around the world and human connections through the arts. I strongly believe that music and creativity is a powerful tool to make the world a better place and that is my main source of inspiration; as a performer, teacher and event organiser.

I have worked as a freelance musician for over 20 years, in various bands and projects and have toured extensively, nationally and internationally. Although I am experienced in a variety of musical genres, the traditional Swedish music that I grew up with has always been closest to my heart. Over the years I have put a lot of time and focus into developing especially my soprano saxophone sound and devising ways in which to use this non-traditional instrument in a folk music context.

Alongside my musicianship I have always been teaching as well which I love. I teach both youth and adults, new beginners as well as more advanced players.

For the last decade I have worked as an Artistic mentor for the worldwide movement Ethno, a project for young adult musicians from around the globe. When I moved to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2016 I decided to start Ethno here as well, becoming one of the co-founders and the musical director of Ethno New Zealand.
